A telescoping pool pole that sticks or slips needs inspection before the next cleaning job. Do not keep using an unreliable lock or force a damaged section to move. Start with the instructions for the exact model because adjustment and maintenance procedures vary.
If a section will not move
Retract or support the tool as the instructions allow, remove the working load and check that the lock is fully released. Look for visible grit, misalignment or damage. Follow the maker’s cleaning method rather than hammering the tube, twisting against a wall or adding an unapproved lubricant.
If the pole shortens during use
Stop the job and check the lock and tube condition. A lever that appears closed may still need a model-specific adjustment or repair. Do not keep tightening until it holds by force; overtightening can damage parts and hide the underlying problem.

If the attachment feels loose
Inspect the head’s handle, retaining buttons and pole connector together. Dirt, worn holes, a damaged button or an incompatible insertion depth can affect the fit. Replace approved service parts when appropriate, and do not rely on a makeshift wrap to keep a head in place.
After a repair
- Check operation without a heavy attachment before returning to normal use.
- Confirm each section stays within its extension limits.
- If the fault persists or there is tube damage, take the pole out of service and consult the maker.
- Keep the model and replacement-part details available so the next repair uses the right components.
When to consider another pole
Replacement makes sense when the structure is damaged, the required parts are unavailable or the working configuration no longer fits your pools. Choosing carbon fiber or a different lock style does not remove the need for cleaning and inspection.
Blackout Pro as an option
Our Blackout Pro 26ft Carbon Fiber Pool Pole combines carbon-fiber tubing with quick-release lever clamps. The 26ft designation is the nominal maximum pole length, not a promise of access to every point in a pool. Check the current listing for the configuration, included items and purchase terms. Preston, a certified pool operator, developed our pole range for pool-cleaning work.

Safety: Carbon fiber conducts electricity. Keep the pole clear of power lines and electrical equipment. Use it only for its intended cleaning work, and follow the pole and attachment manufacturers’ instructions.
