Our 26ft Carbon Fiber Pool Pole is sold for pool cleaning and maintenance. Do not use this article or its product photos as evidence that it is approved for swimmer rescue, lifting a person or use with a rescue hook. A long cleaning pole and dedicated rescue equipment serve different purposes.
The phrase “pool safety pole” can refer to a reaching pole with a rescue hook. It can also be used loosely in shopping searches for ordinary maintenance equipment. Identify which job you need to do before comparing materials, reach or attachments. A leaf rake is a cleaning tool, not a safety net for a swimmer.
What official guidance says about reaching poles
The CDC’s 2024 Model Aquatic Health Code, section 5.8.5.4.2 specifies a 12–16ft, non-telescopic, lightweight reaching pole with a securely attached shepherd’s crook for the facilities covered by that provision. Section 5.8.5.4.2.2 addresses non-conductive material for reaching poles provided after adoption. These are rescue-equipment specifications, not a recommendation to substitute a longer telescopic cleaning pole.
The MAHC explanatory annex notes that a telescoping pole can pull apart under rescue use. The MAHC is guidance rather than a federal law; the requirements that apply to a particular facility depend on its jurisdiction. Confirm the adopted code and equipment requirements with the responsible local authority and use the rescue-equipment manufacturer’s instructions.
Why cleaning attachments cannot establish rescue suitability
An attachment fitting into the end of a pole only shows a physical connection. It does not establish that the pole, connector, fasteners and attachment have been designed as a rescue system. Do not assume that a standard pool-tool connection accepts every rescue hook safely, and do not modify a cleaning pole to make a hook fit.
A rescue purchase needs the exact equipment model, intended use, required dimensions, attachment method and maintenance instructions. A product page describing skimming, brushing and vacuuming does not establish those facts. Obtain dedicated rescue equipment that meets the rules for your facility and have its selection checked by the responsible operator or safety professional.
Keep rescue readiness separate from maintenance storage
- Identify designated rescue equipment clearly so it is not mistaken for an ordinary cleaning tool.
- Keep required safety equipment in its designated accessible location, in accordance with facility rules.
- Inspect it using the manufacturer’s instructions and the facility’s documented procedures.
- Keep staff training and the emergency action plan current; a product article is not rescue training.
- Remove damaged equipment from service and replace it with the appropriate equipment, rather than improvising repairs or substitutions.
Electrical hazards also matter
Carbon fiber is electrically conductive. A carbon fiber shaft should not be treated as an insulating rescue tool, even if its grip is covered. Keep long cleaning poles away from overhead lines and other electrical hazards. For a pool-specific overview, see the CPSC’s electrical-safety guidance for pools and spas.
If someone is in danger, call emergency services and follow the facility’s emergency plan. Do not rely on this buying guide for rescue or medical instructions.
Choosing a pole for ordinary pool cleaning

For skimming, brushing and compatible manual-vacuum attachments, choose a pole by working reach, attachment fit and adjustment method. Our 26ft Carbon Fiber Pool Pole has four telescopic sections and three quick-release clamps. Verify the specific cleaning attachment, use only as much extension as needed and follow the supplied instructions.
Check the shaft, locks and end fitting before use. Stop if a section is damaged or a clamp does not hold. Avoid prying, overloading the pole or working from unstable footing. A longer cleaning pole can help with access, but it does not replace a safe work plan or dedicated safety equipment.
If your purchase is for maintenance, the product page has current details and pricing. If your purchase is for swimmer rescue, select purpose-designed rescue equipment through the appropriate safety-equipment supplier.
Blackout Pro for cleaning tasks
For our current all-black option, see the Blackout Pro 26ft (8m) Carbon Fiber Pool Pole. It has matte-black 3K carbon fiber, four telescopic sections, three all-black quick-release locks, a textured grip and a 16-hole metal tool connector. It is cleaning equipment, not approved rescue gear. The standard pole pictured within this article is a different version. Check the Blackout Pro listing for current details and confirm your attachment fit before ordering.
